I’m sure you’ve had the experience where you are peacefully driving your car and decided to change lanes. After a couple of glances in the mirror, over you drift only to be met with obnoxious honking and a very heated driver. You can’t really match that bad energy because you know you were in the wrong. Instead you sort of skulk away determined to check your blindspot next time. Sadly, our experience of life is filled with mental blindspots. Areas of our lives where we cannot clearly discern how or why we continue to get results we do not want. It is never that we are fully conscious of the issue and choose no action. Instead it involves taking the wrong actions repeatedly due to our apparent inability to observe. These mental blindspots do not show up by happenstance and there is nothing random about them. Essentially they stem from cleverly designed mental campaigns, working against your best interests by selling you error and lies, which when accepted, lead to negative patterns of behavior born of wrong thinking patterns. These then become strongholds craftily built into your thinking which, when conditions are right, march forward compliments of your own negative thinking patterns. How else could you convince human beings to oppose themselves so rigorously? Check your blindspots folks.
This may surprise you to some extent, but we wrestle daily against secret forces working in opposition to God and His goodness. All that God desires to give you, they seek to steal away. They are the intelligence behind the endless refuse heap of wrong doctrines. They overwhelm with options. Their orders; their mission; their assignment only consist of three elements, to steal, kill and destroy. I say that not to alarm you, but rather awaken you to a profound truth. What you think all day matters. You can’t let your mind run wild and travel down any path presented. You have to learn to manage that thinker and start paying attention to what you are feeding it. If you don’t, and let’s face it, that would encompass most people, the end result will be fortresses of error built into your mind designed only to take something from you or lead you down dangerous roads that will end in your defeat in some capacity. That is the reality. And, once the blindspots have been constructed, you are going to have a very difficult time even knowing they are there. But, you will be experiencing their effects. You may just assume that is how life is, but it is not how life is. It is life minus the happiness, the freedom, the joy, the peace, the discovery, the quest, the excitement, the fulfillment. It is a half life. It is empty and barren with no promise of a better day. In short it sucks and you do not have to continue traversing those same blind alleys, scratching your head wondering where you went wrong. What went wrong was you were an unsuspecting victim of a skillful plan, likely oft repeated as it works on many people, and now things are going south on you. You didn’t deserve it at all. But, you were in a fight and if you never fight back, you lose. Learn to fight back. Start seeing your blindspots.
Unfortunately, you are going to have some difficulties seeing these blindspots on your own. Once they have been deftly inculcated into your thinking, they become a part of you, even though they cause you to oppose yourself. They are all those terrible things you say to yourself. They are that litany of rules for living you have concocted for yourself leading only to perceived failure and inadequacy. They are those habit patterns of thought that seek only to diminish you. These aren’t things you are doing to other people. These are the things you are doing to yourself. It’s almost as if the enemy started a negative campaign and you said, “I’ll take it from here. I know how to whip me best.” Again, no good self-loving, self-respecting person would willingly do that to themselves. It’s a blindspot! You ever wonder why I’m such a big proponent of Morning Pages? It’s clarity. I need the clarity and so do you. If these strongholds exist in the dark, and they do, in order to see them you are going to have to turn on the lights. You are going to need to inquire of the Light. God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. He sees through the facades, the illusions, the lies. And, He will show you exactly what you need to know. Don’t worry though. God is full of compassion and mercy and He wants you to know what’s going on. But, in His infinite wisdom, He will clue you in little by little, line by line. Some lessons you may not be ready for yet. But, if you stick with it and you stick with Him, He will shine the light so you can see. Once you see what happened or what is happening, you can now take the necessary steps to break free. You can tear down that edifice of error and get back in control of your life. It is always a good day when you finally see something you really needed to see. Get rid your blindspots.
All of us living have suffered at the hands of our spiritual opponent in some capacity. All of us. That suffering does not come from God, no matter how convinced you have become that you deserve it. All suffering comes from the other side. In order to overcome and win in the fight, you need exposure to the light. You need to be able to see what you are swinging at, man! You need the clarity that only God can give. But, once you see something for maybe the first time ever, you can erase a lifetime of error and pain almost overnight. God wants you to enjoy your life. Your enemy wants to ruin it. You get to choose where you are going to get your needs met. You are driving the car. Experience has shown you there is a part of the road you cannot see so you learned to move your head around to see. Move your head around so you can see.
