Believe for a Change…

  • 6 min read

As a bonafide purveyor of right thought, I’ve always considered it my personal mission to educate people concerning the importance of their thoughts and even more importantly, how those thoughts help form their beliefs. Yet for all that, there’s another piece. Simply stated, if you can get your thoughts together and keep them together long enough to form new, positive beliefs, those new beliefs will soon become your new reality. So what is the other piece? That those new beliefs will soon become your new reality. So plain yet apparently so hard to grasp. Even ChatGPT doesn’t quite get it. It’s not that you want to develop new, positive beliefs simply to feel better or be more resilient or have a better attitude in the midst of whatever happens. The missing link is that what you believe, you receive, 100% of the time. Belief is powerful. It is the lever that moves the heavy switch. Once someone becomes fully persuaded about some outcome, bet money on that guy because it is going to happen. This thought thing leads to this belief thing which leads to your actual reality. This is why God exhorts us to guard our heart, for out of it come the issues of our own lives. All this time you thought life was doing something to you, but in reality you were making the choices for your life; how it turned out, what it looked like, whether it was good or bad, happy or sad. What you believe will or will not happen to you is what will or will not happen to you. Belief is powerful and its applicability exists on both sides of the spectrum. If you believe for bad things (fear) then they will happen to you as well. Not because you drew a short straw, but because you believed what the fear told you to believe.  Belief is powerful. It’s time to believe for a change!

Our society, indeed our world has it all backwards. It insists that the only way to get “there” is by hard work. In other words, if you will work hard enough you can get everything you ever wanted. So noble. So self-made. So pick yourself up by your own bootstraps. But, here’s the kicker! If you do not believe you can have you will NEVER HAVE no matter how hard you work. The world is full of people struggling desperately, working 18 hours a day and still not having their needs met. The issue isn’t the work ethic as much as it’s the limits or limitlessness of their beliefs. You can only progress as far as you believe you can go. Limiting beliefs rob you of the life God intended for you and your beliefs become limited by the thoughts you entertain the most. Wrong thought equals wrong beliefs equals wrong results. Thus, there is one part of that equation that you can directly influence and it is found in your thought life. You must learn how to control and manage your thought life. Not just to be happy, though how could you not be, but more deeply to begin to shape your beliefs towards an end you actually desire, would enjoy and have a right to experience. Unless of course your limiting beliefs screech otherwise. You have a right to it because God gave you the privilege to choose what you will believe. And my friends, as the trite saying should go, the sky is not even the limit. You see, our main issue is that we have to get all of that wrong garbage out of minds and hearts. This world and its systems have all been carefully crafted to keep folks in the dark about this false reality. You are not limited by any circumstance, condition, upbringing, hard times or whatever madness you have endured. It has nothing to do with favorable or unfavorable conditions. It has EVERYTHING to do with what you believe. Believe for a change already.

Believing comes from your heart, not your mind. But, your heart is formed by the things you think about. What are you thinking about? Do you spend your days depleted of energy by your contemplation of all the things that could go wrong? Those things you have absolutely no control over? Yet, here you are dragging around tired, discouraged, defeated. Because life is so hard? Unfair? Unkind? No! It’s because you are cleaving to, indeed incubating, wrong thoughts. You are clutching to those damn things like an old favorite sweater. It never occurred to you that the solution isn’t to keep wrestling with them, but rather to simply let them go. If you refuse to let them go, or better give them to God, then they will form beliefs, beliefs for things you don’t want, belief for the things you have been terrified of receiving. Again, you are the one choosing, not God. This is why we must control our thoughts. It’s important. It’s damn important. If you can get your thoughts in order (and you can or God wouldn’t have told us to control them) then you can begin to shape your beliefs. Once you shape your beliefs and become fully persuaded concerning them, you will now be in position and ready to receive exactly what you have been believing to get. This is the basis upon which the whole more than abundant life promised in John 10:10 is based. (And I didn’t write the book!) It’s how God planned for us to do it. What could be more gracious or more freely available to all men (and women)? It’s the golden ticket promising free admittance anywhere at any time. Sure there might be some work involved, but it’s the work that follows believing that gets the job done. My friends, it is time to believe for a change!
