With anything in life there is a necessity to prove things to yourself. In other words, before you believe in the veracity of thing, you must have first experienced it to be true. Speaking of things as true, yet having no firsthand knowledge of a thing being true, lacks credibility. Yet how many wonderful people there are out there speaking boldly about what God will do for a person yet haven’t seen many results in their own lives? Maybe you are one of those people? I completely understand how believing is always the first step in receiving anything from God, yet the expectation is that you receive the thing you need. There should be some tangible fruit that you can see. I’m not talking about the trite expression that proclaims blessings from things like waking up or opening your eyes. While being alive is most definitely a blessing, there is so, so much more. I think it fair to say that if you are going to continue in this believing God thing, there should be some urgency on your part to prove it to yourself. It always sounds good and warms the soul, but beyond that there should be results you can see. I want to go to Heaven just like everyone else does, but what about the here and now? It seems from what I’ve read that there is a whole spectrum of things God promises to do for a person. God wants to help you right now. God wants you to know that you know that you know. Prove it to yourself!
The first step in proving God to yourself is to find out what is available from Him. There are over 900 promises in the Bible. How many do you know? The point of the promises is that you can feel confident about what God will do for you. Once you have a promise in mind that meets your need, you hold on to that promise in your mind no matter what things look like or how you feel. You cleave to it. Every time something hits your mind that contradicts that promise (oh, and it will!) you rehearse in your mind the promise. Then you believe God by taking action on what you need. Don’t stare at mailboxes trying to manifest results! Take some tangible action concerning your issue. If you need a job start looking. If something hurts get serious about getting it resolved. If you want a partner put yourself out there. They probably won’t just come to your house. That’s the formula for every need you will ever have. Sometimes all you know to do about something is to pray about it, so get busy praying. But, while you pray keep in mind the promise of God that you need. Hold God to His promise for you. That doesn’t make Him angry, that is exactly what He wants you to do. But all of this is just good words and fair speeches if you aren’t getting any results. Here is a handy barometer to know where you stand. Ask yourself, do I really believe God is going to help me with this problem? The answer that comes to mind is your present reality. That is why you have to prove it to yourself!
This may surprise you but God is more willing to answer your prayers than you are to pray them. (Read that sentence again) He has been trying to get your attention for some time now. He is not hard to find. Talk things over with Him and tell Him what you need for Him to do for you. No you do not need a million bucks, think a little more deeply. What do you need to see from Him? What tangible thing can He do for you to open up your eyes a bit? You have to start somewhere. If your issues are just too big for that then start smaller. But you have to prove it to yourself. Don’t just settle for a life of “pretty good” when you can have the best life ever. Don’t resign yourself to live with ill health or diseases. Don’t settle for just any old thing. God wants for you to know. He want to be your sufficiency for every category of life. Aren’t you tired of the “I’ll figure it out” lifestyle? Again, I think it is fair to say that if you are going to be a believer then you should be believing for some results. And our results shouldn’t be reserved for 15 years ago when that one good thing happened. Oh I get it, maybe you have been praying about something for 20 years now. Maybe you have a large backlog of unbelief brought on by years of nothing happening. Been there. But that does not negate the promise of God nor His ability to bring it to pass. You and I are never waiting on God to do something, He is waiting on us to finally believe Him. Life can be tough at times especially when things go wrong, but God is still there right beside you with open arms willing to help. It’s not too late. There is always a reason things don’t come to pass when we genuinely need them, but that reason is not from God. Yes God knows all and sees all. Yes some things we want are not good for us. But this notion that something must not be God’s will when it clearly is His will (from the Bible) is foolishness. God said He would supply all our need according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus. Well, there is your answer to your need! Sometimes it takes us awhile to believe Him. Sometimes we have too much condemnation and guilt in our hearts. Sometimes we have wrong doctrine in our minds telling us we are not worthy of His goodness, when He has clearly made us worthy in Christ. Often the culprit sneaking around in the nether regions is fear. Fear is the number one weapon the adversary uses against believers because fear always, always, always results in unbelief and unbelief defeats the promises of God. The promise isn’t defeated but our getting the results of the promise is. Think about what it is you have been believing and then seek to prove God to yourself.
The proof is in the pudding. How awful would this life be spending years praying for certain needs to be met and then not getting any help. You are talking to God Almighty the Creator of the heavens and the earth. There is nothing He won’t do for you. But, it gets even better than that. God also knows you better than you know yourself. He knows what makes your heart smile and how to bring peace to your soul. He know’s everything about you and still loves you (smile). He will do things for you that only you would even recognize. He can work in the smallest of things. He is infinite in understanding. With all of that power and all of that love and all of that unparalleled ability, is it so inconceivable that He could something about your situation? Isn’t there likely more to learn, to experience, to live? God even goes on to say that He is our Father and we are His children. What wouldn’t an all powerful Father do in order to meet His child’s need? Prove it to yourself.
The time to start believing God is now. The time to finally get your needs met is now. The time to prove God to your old stubborn heart is now. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you have got going on. Complexity is no match for God. He knows no difficulty and with Him nothing is impossible. Have the conversation and get serious about seeing some results. Become determined in your heart. Believing God is not complicated. Unbelief is complicated because it has a million reasons why not. Focusing on all the reasons why not will never produce the results you desire. Instead get your mind onto those promises and don’t let go. God will show you what you need to see. God will prove His goodness to you. God will do whatever it is you need for Him to do. “I am that I am.” Brush off the cobwebs of your imagination and look forward to what He is going to do for you. If you are going to be a believer then believe and prove it to yourself!
Just some good thoughts…
