Have you ever heard “The truth shall set you free?” It actually comes from a verse of scripture spoken by Jesus Christ himself. But, have you ever considered what that really means? Some people claim that it refers to lying and if you tell the “truth” you will be free now. Though truth is the opposite of a lie, the truth spoken of here is the Truth vs. the Lie. Too deep, too soon? Okay let’s think about it. The truth refers to God’s Word, and subsequently, everything that contradicted The Word would have to be a lie. Keep thinking. The truth tells you how it actually is as opposed to what it might look like, feel like, taste like, sound like or smell like. Having access to the truth would serve to keep you on track and not get squirreled off down some worldly rabbit hole offering nothing, taking everything. You get it? It would be your safe anchor, something outside of yourself and your very limited opinions. Something you could depend on when life got bumpy. People justify not knowing by reporting millions of books and religions and sacred writings and churches all purporting to know the same truth. Remember, one truth and the rest lies. Cleverly designed lies, very close to the truth lies, tiny omissions or “necessary” additions, lies. But lies just the same. There is one God and one book and one truth. Not religions, truth. You may dispute that, even clamor against it, but it doesn’t matter. Everything that contradicts the truth will, sooner or later, hurt you. What else could a lie do for you? Every lie and its originator are the opposite of what is true. So instead of health people reap to themselves sickness. Instead of happiness and fulfillment they gather unrest, anxiety and trouble. Instead of gaining and prospering and living abundantly they succumb to loss after loss, endless defeats and poverty in soul and circumstance. There could be no other outcome. You invested in the lie and got nothing for it. There is a truth that sets you free…
God is not in the business of making things confusing. There is confusion, a whole world of confusion, but that confusion is not from God. God is in the business of clarification. There are so many choices that the volume of the choices overwhelms your choice. Phew! You can’t dilute something times a million and expect someone to want it. So the choice? No choice. But, there is another choice. Choosing it gives you instant access to the truth that sets you free. Once you know, or I should say begin to know, you start to recognize the lies. Alarming as it feels at the time, you quickly discover where you have been fed a line of bullshit through the years and you have been believing the wrong stuff. For real. But, praise the Lord, now you know better. That truth set you free! Yes you still have an entire life of shenanigans in front of you. Yes, you are going to repeat some mistakes quite often. Yes, some lessons may take decades. But every piece of understanding, every piece of comprehension, every sliver or morsel named truth ever leads you to that grand destination called wholeness. Whole as in no longer a fragmented mess. An integrated person who loves themselves, and accepts themselves and is no longer so focused on themselves. That kind of person. The dream edition. It comes from the truth, the one truth, the truth that sets you free.
Everybody has a doctrine. Everybody has a technique, a skill, a key. Everybody wrote a book about it. And, everybody read it. So we add in more confusion by saying things like, “What is your truth?” As if truth can be personalized and adapted to fit the wearer. You, my friends, don’t have a truth. Me neither. Yet, we can be true to ourselves. But, the truth that sets us free does not originate with us. It is not our truth. It is the truth. When we assimilate the truth into our truth, our lives become sublime. It’s like missing on 23 targets and hitting on the 24th. Once you hit the truth everything else will start to make sense. Would God really obscure that truth under a million “other” truths? Somebody is not being honest. There are almost infinite choices, but there will always be one choice. You may be exactly who you want to be, act the way you want to act and believe the things you want to believe. Lord protect your choice. But, and there is a but, some choices will not produce fruit and worse, will actually take something from you. Wrong choices, all the rest of the choices, all the options, do not negate the one true choice. They serve simply to sully it, to disguise it, to blur it and obscure it and blind you more along the way. They are not another option, an alternative. They are, wait for it…a lie which will not honor its warranty. Meanwhile you ain’t getting any younger and your years, less and less. When you live your life in bondage to something, you are not truly free. If you know the truth, you shall be free indeed!
The truth that sets you free is not found by deciding to stop lying. The truth that sets you free sets you free from the lies; the lies you have been living. It is the key to the lock! “Hey, the door is open! Run out of the prison!” It is God’s solution to the gigantic barrel of refuse from which you have been trying to siphon a life. It’s the real deal. The genuine. The real McCoy. It’s the truth, the one truth, the only truth that sets you free. Don’t you want to be free? It’s so much better on the other side. Thank God for the truth that sets you free.
